In 1986 he became a Trustee of the Primary Club, a charity which raises money from abject failure in the cricket arena. Anyone out first ball in any form of cricket is eligible to join! All money raised goes to fund sporting opportunities for blind and partially sighted children and adults.
In 1990 he became a trustee of the British Paralympic Association
In the late 1990s he served on Sport England’s “Playground to Podium” committee
In 1998 he became a trustee of the Disability Sports Development Trust, and is currently the Chairman. The DSDT is a grant making body supporting organisations arranging grass roots sporting activities for people with a disability.
In 2001 he was elected Chairman of the British Paralympic Association
In 2003 he was appointed as a member of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Bid Team. He was responsible for presenting the Paralympic component of the bid to the IOC Evaluation Commission, and presented at a number of forums in this country and abroad.
In 2005, following the successful bid for the Games, he was appointed as a board member of the London Organising Committee.
In 2007 he was appointed as the Chair of the City of London Sport and Physical Activity Network (COLSPAN)
In 2008 he stood down as Chairman of BPA
In 2009 mike stood down as a Board Member of LOCOG
In 2009 Mike then served as a member of the LOCOG Diversity Board until the games in 2012.
from 2008 to 2010, Mike was a member of the Advisory Board which established the UK Anti-doping Agency from 2010 to 2016 Mike served on the Board of the UK Anti-doping Agency as a Director when, having completed the maximum 2 terms of office, he retired in 2016.
